The Riviera Beach (Fla.) Police Department has has begun using SmartWater CSI, a liquid agent used to mark evidence, according to the company.
The non-hazardous agent can be applied to any piece of property. Once applied, it is virtually impossible to remove, leaving an identifying mark that lasts five years. It's visible under ultravoilet black light, according to the company.
A law enforcement agency can take the smallest micro-fragment of SmartWater from stolen property and submit it as evidence to SmartWater's forensic laboratories. The SmartWater team then examines the sample and will provide information to Riviera Beach PD detectives to assist in matching the suspect to the crime. As a result, thieves who make the calculated mistake of targeting SmartWater marked-assets face a far greater risk of successful prosecution.
