The University of Colorado (CU) is crediting social media Web sites for helping campus police identify a theft suspect.

After three separate reports of credit cards being stolen in campus computer labs and tech centers, CUPD posted surveillance footage of the suspect using the cards on its Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages on Thursday, the Denver Channel reports. Three hours later, campus police received tips, leading them to 23-year-old CU sophomore Javier Alexis Silva-Acosta.

Police arrested Silva-Acosta, who was carrying credit cards belonging to a victim, at the Center for Community dining hall. The arrest marks the third time this school year that social media has helped CUPD make criminal arrests.
