California Adds Blue Alert for 2011

The state's Emergency Alert System, much like the Amber Alert, would be activated as a Blue Alert if an officer is killed, injured or assaulted; a suspect poses an immediate danger to the public or law enforcement; a detailed description of a suspect's vehicle or license plate is available for broadcast; or further information would help accelerate apprehension.

Several new laws will affect California motorists in 2011 including a Blue Alert for law enforcement, ability of motorists to install a window-mounted event-recording video camera, and a 10-year license revocation for three or more DUIs.

The California Highway Patrol issued a press release summarizing the new traffic laws.

Several of the new laws affect motorcyclists.

"The new laws are designed to make California roadways safer for travelers regardless of their mode of transportation," said CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow.
