Pennsylvania Police Remove Trooper As Roethlisberger Assistant

Pennsylvania State Trooper Ed Joyner can no longer work as an assistant to Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger because his conduct "demeaned the image of the department," according to a statement from the agency.

Pennsylvania State Trooper Ed Joyner can no longer work as an assistant to Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger because his conduct "demeaned the image of the department," according to a statement from the agency.

The announcement, reported by the Post-Gazette, came the day NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended the NFL player for six games for his conduct involving a sexual assault allegation.

In 2005, the state police approved a supplemental employment application that allowed Joyner to drive Roesthlisberger to home games, charity events, autograph sessions and other events.

Last week, a Georgia police sergeant resigned after he acknowledged making derogatory remarks about Roesthlisberger's accuser.
