The Brooklyn Park (Minn.) Police Department is investing in new technology to improve officer and community safety. The Police Department has signed a contract to license New World Systems' Aegis/MSP Public Safety Solution on the Microsoft platform to streamline operations, better allocate resources, and improve interoperability and data sharing with the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office.

In addition to gaining new crime fighting tools today, the department was looking to invest in a solution that would provide it with continued technology advancements well into the future. A solid reputation for continued investment in research and development and customer-driven software development practices made New World Systems the best choice, the department says.

"New World Systems is a very stable company with a 100 percent focus on the public sector, which is extremely important to us," says Lorelei Meyer, support services manager. "New World continuously reinvests in their solutions, looking at how to do things better and distributing these benefits to agencies across the country. Their technology and vision is an exact match to where the police department wants to be."

The City of Brooklyn Park currently uses New World Systems' Logos.NET public administration software and has been overwhelmingly pleased with the service, support, and software development involvement it has received. This strong relationship between the city and New World was a factor in the police department's decision to choose New World.

New World will provide the department with Aegis/MSP records management, mobile computing, and field-based reporting software developed in-house using proven Microsoft technology, an industry-standard Windows server and SQL server. The completely integrated suite of software will ensure that information entered into one application will be available throughout the entire solution, improving data accuracy and access to mission critical information. New World's advanced data analysis and mapping capabilities will help the Brooklyn Park Police Department better analyze high crime or problem areas, allowing them to allocate resources where they are needed most. This will help the department better serve a population of more than 72,000 residents.

"Keeping officers safe and on the street so they are more readily available for calls is one of our top priorities,"says Meyer. "With New World's Mobile Computing and Field-Based Reporting solutions, the officers will have access to alerts and historical information from their vehicles and will have reporting capabilities they have never had before."

It is anticipated that New World's Mobile solution will also reduce data entry for officers and records staff through streamlined workflow and electronic approvals, and will even alleviate some extended shifts and costs related to officer overtime.

New World will also provide real-time interoperability for the police department to improve data sharing with Hennepin County.

"This was a huge decision and a lot of money to spend in this day and age," says Meyer. "And we have made the right decision with New World. We heard nothing but positive comments from other agencies located across the country and throughout Minnesota. They have a great reputation for industry leading solutions, service and support. Our current system has worked for us, but it is time to move up and we are looking forward to the future with New World."
