The International Union of Police Associations (IUPA) has announced the opening of the 6th annual Quill and Badge Awards competition for 2001.

The award was conceived in 1995 and based on the union's belief that the relationship between law enforcement officers and members of the press is too often adversarial The IUPA is seeking submissions from journalists throughout the country. Judging will be conducted by three former police officers and at least one person with professional journalism training and experience.

Criteria include clarity and accuracy, the ability to interest the public in the message, and the potential for creating and enhancing a positive public attitude toward law enforcement professionals. Anyone interested in nominating a work for a Quill and Badge Award can contact the IUPA at iupa@iupa.org or 703-549-7473.
