The man accused of the worst mass shooting in U.S. history appeared dazed as he sat in court Monday with a shock of orange hair and brick-red jail jumpsuit.

James Holmes, 24, sat in the Arapahoe County courtroom with one of his public defenders, Tamara Brady, reports the Denver Post.

District Attorney Carol Chambers declined to say whether she will seek the death penalty for Holmes when she files formal charges, expected next Monday, in the deaths of 12 people and the wounding of 58 in the Friday shooting spree during a screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" at the Century 16 movie theater in Aurora.

News coverage has depicted Holmes as a shy loner who once showed promise as a neuroscience student. Holmes was raised in San Diego and graduated with honors from the University of California, Riverside. He earned a grant to pursue a doctorate in neuroscience at the University of Colorado's Anchutz Medical Campus in Aurora.

Holmes had no criminal record prior to the shooting, and was once ticketed for speeding in October 2011, reports Fox News.

Unfortunately, the DA seems to be one of those "roll over types" and whether or not seems to adverse to the death penalty or not and whether or not he's a college graduate with honors or not! He took twelve lives and attempted to take 58 more, he should be required to forfeit his life for murder in the "WORSE" Degree. He should Die for this!

The media should no longer speak this suspects name and he should be identified ONLY as a W/M 24yrs old. I really do not know if he has lost his mind or not and frankly do not care. He knew what he was doing was wrong so he should be executed in public by means of the electric chair and then his body burned to ashes and scattered or flushed into the ocean so there is no marker or remembering his person. Do NOT make him famous or give him any credit or recognition.

There is way too much attention on this suspect in the news media as far as I'm concerned. He is a cold blooded murderer and the only arguable point will be if he was insane at the time. Since he had the brains to plan this in detail along with his elaborate booby trap waiting for a police response, I hope he doesn't skate on an insanity plea. I don't care about his degree, how smart he is or what size shorts he wears. He needs to face punishment that is commensurate with the death that he dealt out to his victims.

@Bud Chapman

Agreed. I would like to see public hangings brought back. This sack of [email protected]#% doesn't deserve the dignity of a firing squad.

I agree with Bud, Robocop &Tom; I'm sick of hearing about the "Criminal" being such a good kid, or being so intellectually smart, etc. I want to know if he will be also charged with attempted murder of police officers? on top of the murder of 12, and attempted murder of 58. Afterall, you know he meant the bombs in the apartment to kill/mame police responders too! Lets make sure he gets the death penalty by the additional charge (since the law stresses more penalty when a law enforce ment officer is killed or injured). I'm sick of paying my hard earned tax dollars to give the criminals free room & board, recreation, clothing, and free education!!!

I am sorry but I have to say this to vent. Why aren't there the comments from the citizens bashing this guy? If this was a cop that shot just one person he would be crusified by the ignorant masses or even if the police would have shot this idiot they would have been bashed just because they are cops. So all of you that like to make the comments about a cop shooting someone where are you on this? It must be ok with you that a regular person can go out and actually commit mass murder. You don't say a word about this. I have read all the articles and comments on this subject but I am not seeing the cop bashers saying a thing about the mass murder murdering innocent people that in no way were doing anything wrong or could have been considered a threat in any way. Why is that? It would be one thing if you were fair about your comments when you complain about someone being shot but it seems out right obvious murder is ok with you people. Again, I am sorry for saying this and taking anything away from what happened but it just pisses me off.

This is a great country full of laws to protect all of us. But as times change so should the laws. I been waiting for years to see a federal law for shooting a LEO. I want the death penalty even if the crime was committed in a liberal state. Before I bite the dust I want a law that will execute any SOB scumbag with a gun if its on video, no question what so ever this is the person. You do not pass go! You go to the gas chamber immediately! Now that's a gun law!! Sick of idiots like Mayor Bloomberg (acts and sounds like Jackson and Sharpton now) who is like a Jack-in-the-box everytime a high profile shooting hits the networks. He should take a hard look at New York City it's not exactly Disney World! Where do we get these politicians?

Mike @ 7/24/2012 9:07 PM

Look at this IDIOT!! All that faking @ court! What a looser.
We should give this MURDERER to the parents of the victims and let them decide what to do with him.

Your looking at the groundwork for an insanity plea, the hair (was that done prior to or after the arrest?), the disoriented appearence, etc. This asswipe is VERY intelligent!! He's playing the DA and his PD for all he's worth! Mark my words, he'll get a padded room for a few years at most. Should have been DOA.
