The Florida police chief who failed to arrest George Zimmerman immediately after the fatal shooting of teenager Trayvon Martin has been fired by Sanford's city manager.

Chief Bill Lee, who temporarily stepped aside in March, was dismissed due to the "the escalating divisiveness that has taken hold of the city," said Sanford City Manager Norton Bonaparte in a statement reported by the Miami Herald.

Richard Myers, former chief of the Colorado Springs Police Department, assumed the duties of interim chief in May.

First they do not accept hos resignation, then they fire him. That's some vindictive sh*t! What happens if Zimmerman is acquitted and it is proved that the right decision was made at the time of the incident, will the city be liable for wrongful termination??? Sounds like more politics over proper procedure.

Tom Ret @ 6/21/2012 6:09 PM

The chief would probably still have his job it this had remained a local issue. AFter our bozo in chief said Martin would look his son if he had one and Rev Sharpton and numb nuts Jackson chimed in, the case went viral. Zimmerman was convicted in the liberal press accompanied by
accusations by the race baiters that this was all about race violence and that Martin was clearly the victim. Now that some of facts are coming out, it appears that Martin wasn't as much a victim as previously thought by the agitators. Of course, they will never admit this.

Lets not let the smoke and mirrors make our judgment fuzzy. The minority community has tainted the justice system by Bullying the governing bodies involved. Jesse and Al are nothing more than snake oil salesmen that are somewhat of good orators. They lead the mass of near illiterates many of whom have no idea of what honest work is. EVERYTHING they do is really for themselves.

Remember Tawana Brawley (sp)? Ever hear either, especially Big Al apologize for inciting the public after he learned she was nothing more than a brazen liar. How many lives were affected by his mutterings.

Take the two of them and the incompetent liar heading up the U S and we have real life Three Stooges show.

This Chief got a raw deal by the spineless political leaders. This Chief and ALL other Chiefs go to Legal Council for direction in such serious and delicate cases. Is the DA fired too?

Jake @ 6/21/2012 7:43 PM

I love how the city manager said the chief was let go due to "the escalating divisiveness that has taken hold of the city". He's basically saying the termination was a load of bullpucky, and it was done merely to pacify the mob of idiots who are buying the [proven to be] falsified reporting of the mainstream media..

Hoshi @ 6/21/2012 8:37 PM

Don't accept this laying down Chief. Get a labor lawyer & FIGHT 'EM.

Craig Andersen @ 6/21/2012 9:42 PM

Why is the former chief wearing a mourning band on his badge. Hopefully not because of Travon Martin.

framirez @ 6/21/2012 9:53 PM

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the prosecutor in the Tawana Brawley case win a default judgement against her, which has never been paid, as well as $65K judgement against Sharpton, which he never paid personal, but help from the "Rev." Johnnie Cochran...?

Bob@Az. @ 6/21/2012 10:10 PM

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the DA state that there wasn't enough evidence to charge Zimmerman in the first place? And didn't the alleged "lead detective" state thate he could see no damages to Zimmerman when it was glaringly obvious from pics that he had been beaten? To "fire" this man is piss poor ass covering by a bunch of wussy politicians. Hope he fights this crap and makes sure the mayor and city manager (?) bonapart pay dearly. This Sucks!

WestCoastLEO @ 6/21/2012 10:12 PM

Yes folks, at the very second, after the shooting, the police investigated the incident and came up with what they assumed was the right decision. The Florida law of CCW and protecting yourself seemed to fall into place and the police department assumed the State Law would be right. But due to the fact that it did not sit well with the town cryers and bell ringers, the police are wrong as usual so, lets fire them. Everyone on that department autta walk off the job and let that town fall apart. Every LEO in that state should walk off the job for a week and let everyone know about a week in advance just so the crooks can have a nice warning so they can get ready to riot. I'd love to see the sheep cry for the sheepdog when the wolves show up at their door.

Juan 10-13 @ 6/22/2012 6:42 AM

Hey WestCoastLEO you got something there my brother.....that would be awesome.......who would they call? Ghost busters I guess.

Rick Staly @ 6/22/2012 6:44 AM

Craig Andrews - the chief is wearing a mourning badge because a Seminole County Deputy Sheriff was killed in the line of duty a few days before this photo was taken.

As a retired command staff member of a Central Florida agency I predicted this outcome when the case became political. The city manager and city council would save themselves at the expense of an outstanding chief and law enforcement officer. Its not right but it is the risk that all chief's take. That's why the average tenure for a chief in the U.S. is less than three years. Its better to move to another chief's position when on top of the horse and not after you are knocked off. From what I know the SPD handled it correctly but I'm sure some politically correct paid consultant will find otherwise to justify the firing. Without clear evidence you file the case with the State Attorney to determine charges. That's what I understand they were doing. I wish Chief Lee the best.

Dave @ 6/22/2012 7:21 AM

The troubling aspect of this situation to me was when Chief Lee took a 'temporary leave' at the time his department was being assailed from multiple sides on what it did or didn't do, leaving his Assistant Chief to weather the storm. I liken that to a ship Captain abandoning his sinking vessel before everyone else has taken to the life boats.

The Chief had a responsibility to his department, his community and himself to defend the decision made not to arrest Mr. Zimmerman, a decision that was apparently backed by the prosecutors office. Instead, he took his leave, possibly on recommendations of others, but he probably should have stood his ground and fought the good fight.

Bud Chapman @ 6/22/2012 10:39 AM

I'm not saying its a good thing or not, him being fired. It seems to me that he was following department protocol. But, my main headache with this case other than Zimmerman carrying a weapon, is why does the police chief have to answer to the city manager? It appears to me that the police should have to answer to the Civil Service Commission of the state, not some political flunky at the city level!

sarge4139 @ 6/22/2012 10:41 PM

Of course They are going to fire the Chief, He was nothing but a scapegoat for all the liberal idiot chickens*its , I mean,I could hear them now, Oh Oh the bad people are yelling race shooting we better fire our Chief so they dont get mad at us So what if it was a legitimate self defence shooting, so what the perp had a mile long rap sheet,This type of B.S. needs to stop it's getting so far out of hand I cannot think of any more good reasons people want to become LEO's anymore.

Bob@Az. @ 6/26/2012 12:43 PM

OK Juan 10-13& WestcoastLEO, You know you couldn't walk away from someone needing help but it sure sounds good. Stay alert & safe.

john @ 6/27/2012 10:58 AM

Haven't heard much from anyone about the 79 children rescued from sex slavery by Law Enforcement. It would be nice if those that bash LEO all the time would show some support for all the good that we do. Retired PD.

Susan P @ 6/28/2012 10:55 AM

Why hasn't there been a true and recent picture of Travon Martin? They keep showing him as a pimple faced teenager, when he actually looks like a full grown man with tattoos all over his face and arms. he would certainly scare me if I ran across him in the dark!

Trigger @ 7/6/2012 7:18 AM

Wow, typical political stupidity. Follow the law, follow the evidence (or lack of), play by the rules and get canned. It is apparent that the city manager is lacking the intestinal fortitude to stand up to the pressure. Put him on the front line and see how his decision making holds up.
