Colt Manufacturing is considering leaving its Connecticut manufacturing plant, following the announcement of a slew of gun-control proposals that has put the company's employees "in the cross-hairs," CEO Dennis Veilleux told Fox News.

Colt, which has produced firearms in Hartford for 175 years, is considering the move because of the pro-gun-control climate created following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown in December.

Proposed laws being debated by the Legislature and pushed by Gov. Dannel Malloy include a new gun offender registry, an expanded assault weapons ban, ammunition restrictions and a ban on bulk purchases of handguns.

The firearms industry contributes $1.7 billion annually to Connecticut's economy.

Earlier this week, Magpul said it will consider leaving Colorado following the passage of three gun-control laws.

That would be a damn shame if Colt left East Hartford. Colt is an historic CT institution. I have visited the factory and the people that work there are dedicated, professional and hardworking CT citizens. I was proud to be a CT cop and carry a CT Colt AR-15.

Tom Ret @ 3/22/2013 1:39 PM

If Colt makes the move it could open the floodgates for other related
industries. and justifiably so.

Dave @ 3/22/2013 4:37 PM

Colt and Magpul need to leave and teach the liberal nuts a lesson. There are plenty of states that would welcome both of them.

Mark @ 3/22/2013 5:06 PM

Colt is welcome to come to Texas...we are pro-gun, pro-individual rights, and pro-business.

Big @ 3/22/2013 5:13 PM

Colt and Magpul are welcome in Alaska. We are open for there business.

Dennis @ 3/22/2013 5:13 PM

The Kansas business climate is one of the best in the nation, centrally located low cost of living, great schools, and a RED state.

Stan @ 3/22/2013 5:13 PM

They'd be welcomd in AZ. Constitutional carry state. I'd even like to join the managment team.

gunner @ 3/22/2013 5:25 PM

I think these anti 2nd Amendment States are about to shoot their collective selves in the foot. The firearm industry brings in countless BILLIONS to the US economy. What's next? Ban spoons because they make people fat or automobiles because they cause drunk drivers? What these politicians lack in brains they more than make up with in unbelievable stupidity.
My 2 cents worth,
Semper Fi

Sgtmac @ 3/22/2013 5:28 PM

Come to Missouri, you're welcome here.

Cb @ 3/22/2013 5:32 PM

Cb @ 3/22/2013 5:33 PM

Did I happen to mention, FLORIDA!!!

Marc Coulon @ 3/22/2013 5:55 PM

About Tennesse.....where good country food and southern hospitality is.

Rick @ 3/22/2013 6:04 PM

Move to Florida or Texas they seem to know the constitution better than our law makers. Guns have never commited crimes people commit crimes.

G.D. Little @ 3/22/2013 6:05 PM

Come to all will truly feel at home.

Morning Eagle @ 3/22/2013 6:19 PM

It would be good if Colt, Magpul, and other firearms and/or ammunition manufacturers currently located in states run by stupid politicians really would pull up stakes and move out. There are plenty of states, mostly western, that would welcome them and the resulting economic boost and new jobs with open arms. It would be safe to add Utah to the numerous ones listed by other readers. Maybe, just maybe, the moronic politicians and bureaucrats where they are now would get the message as they saw jobs and billions in tax dollars disappear into the sunset.

Joann @ 3/22/2013 6:20 PM

You're welcome in Idaho!

Joann @ 3/22/2013 6:21 PM

You're more than welcome in Idaho where we support the 2nd Amendment!

Joann @ 3/22/2013 6:23 PM

Did I mention Twin Falls? or right to work state?

jon @ 3/22/2013 6:42 PM

Don't forget about Vermont, a Constitutional open carry state and the most gun friendly state in the U.S.

Tom Ret @ 3/22/2013 6:54 PM

Gov. Malloy, while claiming he is making his state safer with new gun control legislation, is letting convicts out of prison early. Colt should not walk but run from this state. As others have stated, there are several states wanting their business who support the constitution and the individual right to bear arms.

Louie M @ 3/22/2013 7:23 PM

Welcome to Alaska, Colt! We may be far but our guns are always close by, loved and respected! So come on over!

Bob@Az. @ 3/22/2013 8:32 PM

Yo, Colt: Arizona is the place you wanna be!!! We're already home to Ruger as well as many smaller manufacturers and would welcome you with open arms!!

ernesto @ 3/22/2013 9:17 PM

come to mexico; cheap labor and beer

Gene @ 3/22/2013 11:36 PM

I do my best not to spend money in states where they are anti LE, 2A, Rights, and things I believe in. I have not understood why Colt and others have stayed in CT, or NY. Or NJ. Those are anti American states as I see it so I don't spend my money there. If the factory workers can't have the product, then it must not be for me! I do understand select fire, cans, flash bangs and the like are different, but an AR and a full size mag is apple pie American to me!

Fed Up Citizen @ 3/23/2013 2:43 AM

Instead of asking Colt and Magpul to come to your state why not tell these antigun, anti 2nd Amendment states to stop their treasonous actions and pass laws that will keep criminals in prison and hold people accountable for their actions. Every time a state passes an anti gun law it weakenes all of the other states laws.

Dennis Wenger @ 3/23/2013 3:20 AM

The Progressives are not listening to their Constituents, because they think they know better. My suggestion to these companies is to Get out of places that don't support you, and move to places that have either a Fair Tax or no income tax. Unfortunately, my state of SC has neither, so I suggest they DON'T come here for that exact reason. Make a point of it, please.

Chicago Sam @ 3/23/2013 3:26 AM

Wherever you go DO NOT come to Illinois which is run by Rahm Emanuel and Pat Quinn and the only state without a concealed carry law right now. But what ever you do please bring back the DETECTIVE SPECIAL, maybe in stainless steel and a Melonite finish. My 30 year old version is showing a lot of wear.

Rob @ 3/23/2013 4:24 AM

Colt had a part in shaping Kansas. They'd be welcome here. Magpul too, and any other company wanting to get out from under an unfriendly state government.

Larry Thompson @ 3/23/2013 7:11 AM

Oklahoma welcomes you also!! Got plenty of real estate for use. And no misdirected attempts to appease citizens when it comes to gun safety.

Sgt. Ivan @ 3/23/2013 9:29 AM

Hey, ya'll c'mon down to Florida, one, if not the best pro-firearms state in the USA!

John Russell @ 3/23/2013 2:38 PM

GO to Texas or Kentucky --plenty of good loyal workers and fine climate in both!

Frank @ 3/23/2013 4:38 PM

Imagine if the auto industry was treated the same way the gun industry is. Still out politicians who make these laws just won't face the real facts behind all this mayhem in the country.

Sam Sergeant @ 3/23/2013 7:37 PM

Thomas Jefferson, "Tyranny is defined as that which is legal for the government but illegal for the citizenry." Why flee, stay and fight.
If NYC Dictator Bloomberg can spend $2 million on a Chicago Congressional election to defeat a pro-2nd Amendment candidate why can’t Colt and the NRA do the same? You have employees wanting to keep their jobs in the place where they have their roots and all the rest who want to keep them and their $$ there. ORGANIZE REGISTER & VOTE! Not only to your employees but to any company you deal with right down to the drivers who deliver steel or coffee. Get your employees to reach all their neighbors and their children's schools and teachers. Make the politicians FEAR YOU.
And yes, please bring back the Colt Detective Special.

Rainer @ 3/24/2013 11:16 AM

Colt should leave earth......and you smalbrains too!

Mike Mullins @ 3/24/2013 11:40 AM

Your welcome in West Virginia !!!!

Jim A @ 3/24/2013 4:46 PM

There are idiots in every state. And a whole collection of them in Washington D.C.

Liberalism is killing us.

Frank @ 3/25/2013 4:18 AM

Just think how many violent people from Mexico and a few other Latin American countries will be welcome in the USA because of the political climate of today. Cartels running the streets of America with LEO's on the take like in Mexico and no guns to be found anywhere thanks to our liberal politicians and low IQ citizens of today. Think back folks did your father or grandfather have these problems 50 years ago? We will be another third world Sh**hole!

Bob @ VA @ 3/25/2013 5:47 AM

Come on down to VA! Open and concealed carry here, with strong Castle Doctrine enshrined in case law. Our economy has been booming with a skilled workforce, favorable business environment, and budget surpluses. Moderate climate as well.

Marshal Fine @ 3/25/2013 6:19 AM

Hey Colt and Magpul MOVE TO INDIANA !! We are gun friendly and gun owner friendly !! We have low taxes !!! We are very business friendly!! We would be proud to have you guys here !! I bet we could find you HUGE tax incentives !! Move here... screw those goofy states and their child like actions against business !! MOVE TO INDIANA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jenann @ 3/25/2013 6:25 AM

'COME TO MICHIGAN' we have the wonderful 4 seasons. You could enjoy our nice Spring, warm Summer, cool Fall, and somewhat cold Winters (sometimes during the same month it seems!) AND YOU WOULD HELP OUR TROUBLED ECONOMY A GREAT DEAL!

Juan 10-13 @ 3/25/2013 7:37 AM

Hey Colt and Magpul VA welcomes y'all with open come on down brothers and sisters! We'll be tickled pink to have yas! Hey Rainer rats like cheese so why don't you move to the moon. Colt's here to stay on Earth!

Jim40years @ 3/25/2013 8:22 AM

What a shame and a loss to CT. As a Colorado native, DON'T come here as we are becoming the "nanny" state or as some of us like to call it, the California of the plains.

Crossdrawjohn @ 3/25/2013 1:46 PM

Please come to sunny Arizona. I need a great job, and we are gun friendly.

Larry21 @ 3/26/2013 4:27 PM

Move your operation to Hebron Kentucky. We will welcome you will eager employees and tax credits for your factory.

Bluesheepdog_WA @ 3/26/2013 9:34 PM

Come to WA State! We could always use another quality industry here in the Pacific Northwest!

My brain is just fine; it holds a college degree and several advanced certifications. I have spent almost forty years in law enforcement arresting killers and finding lost children. I can still put multiple shots in the 10 ring on multiple targets reload and do it again. I have defended the rights of your arrogant a** from thugs with Colt, Smith and Wesson, Ithaca, Remington and Mossberg products. The day may come when you wish you had a Colt because the police, our ranks having been depleted just won't be there.

Rainer @ 3/29/2013 3:38 AM

Hi Chicago Sam,
it´s fine, that you can shoot, it´s absolut ok, that you did your job.
But it´s not acceptable, that everybody has the "constitutional" right to fill up his home with weapons of all kind an calibre. What will you shoot with a .50 cal. cannon????? In your garden?????

Once in the history of your country it was a must to have a gun because there was no police or army.....long, long time ago!!!! But today?
What happens, when nearly everybody carries a gun you may watch in the near or middel east, in Irac, in Afganistan, in several countrys in administration is able to control this huge amount of weapons. Never. And your soldiers had / have to face this situation.
This will be the result of too many weapons in too many hands.
Your people say, every good hands should have a good weapon. But who will say, witch hand is good or not good at witch point or time? The good one can be the bad one within seconds......

I am wathing your weapon culture now for many years. This has nothing to do with reason.......its just a question of "you or me"...everyday, everyminute....
You don´t need or want a government or police, you want to be your own army, police, power....and because everybody thinks in this way, you need a weapon....shoot first, ask later.....poor smallbrains....

Brian Bissett @ 4/2/2013 7:42 PM

Every Firearms Manufacturer MUST leave CT if this bill is passed into law. Further, every Firearms Manufacturer should join a consortium in which they all agree not to sell firearms to the Police or Military which are forbidden to be owned by the public. Firearms manufacturers will hang together or hang seperately. The civilian market for firearms far exceeds the law enforcement market. Corporate America dictates the rules for everything else in America, why not firearms?

zack @ 4/4/2013 12:30 PM

Magpul is already leaving ASAP and has said they will be up in running in another state in 30 days. It is official Beretta Leaves Maryland for good as well. Feel free to Google.

John @ 4/6/2013 1:22 PM

Rainer learn to spell Moron.

Brad Miller @ 4/8/2013 6:05 AM

Odessa Texas would be glad to have you in our area.

Jay @ 4/8/2013 7:02 PM

Why wouldnt they leave? It would be a great business decision on there part. Dan Malloy just destroyed connecticuts economy even more then he already has and did absolutely NOTHING to FURTHER protect children/adults alike. Anyone who thinks banning more guns keeps people safe is completely clueless. More so anyone who thinks keeping people safe is the real reason for gun control is out of their minds. If that was the case, they would have made arguments for these laws over 200 years ago.

Chris @ 4/9/2013 5:19 AM

Welcome to Brekenridge Texas Colt. We look forward to your Grand Opening.

ROSE KING @ 4/11/2013 11:19 PM

If the people would go after the real big pharma criminals that get the nation addicted to SSRI drugs, it would be a better world.

It is not the guns, it is an agenda to confiscate them beginning with the gun registration legislation now being passed. Same thing happened in Stalinist Russia. Next, it is the Gulags.

Now, it is all about these SSRI drugs that cause gun violence. Here is the proof.:

Bernard Maston @ 4/20/2013 7:26 PM

I will not purchase any future weapons or accessories from any company that resides and supports (via taxes etc.) anti-gun, anti-2nd amendment state. There are other manufactures in other states that will get my business. If all gun owners and pro second amendment supporters took this stand it would either force them to move or put them out of business. What the he*l, the states they are supporting are trying to put them out of business. Just my thoughts and what I am going to do.
