A postcard perfect sunset added to the drama of a prayer service Monday evening for wounded San Bernardino Police Officer Gabriel Garcia.

San Bernardino Police Chaplain Ray Miller asked the 2,000 people attending the service at San Manuel Stadium to pray for “Gabe’s healing, for his complete recovery,” the San Bernardino County Sun reports.

Miller said he was angry about the “cowardly” ambush that felled Garcia, 31, early Friday morning. Garcia was shot with an assault rifle during a protracted gun battle.

At one point, the crowd, at Miller’s instruction, held out their arms in the direction of Colton’s Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, where Garcia is in a medically induced coma and shouted “heal, Gabe!”

These incidents get to be old. The life of a L.E.O. is no longer valued by many communities. If I was still on today & a veteran I'd be tempted to let the calls roll by. If L.E. blinders were put in place, they didn't show up for calls, & it was the communities azz hanging in the wind I bet it'd be a whole different story. But that's not how we in the business do it. Citizens should be thankful that's how we are, too.

Officer Gabriel Garcia I hope you get well soon. I tried to check on your status via the web. Have you in my thoughts daily & may God perform the miracle needed to make you whole once again. May the Men & Women of the S.B.P.D. & S.B.S.O. find some solace in the hours, days, & months ahead. Especially his Father Capt. Ron Garcia.
