The mother of a Washington state parolee who accidentally shot himself to death during a gunfight with San Francisco police last year has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the city.
Kenneth Wade Harding, 19, fatally wounded himself while running away from officers who stopped him on Third Street in the Bayview neighborhood for failing to pay a Muni fare, police said.
But in a lawsuit filed Friday in U.S. District Court in San Francisco, Harding's mother Denika Chatman said police have some responsibility for her son's death and that officers failed to give him immediate medical care. Instead, they "left him writhing in pain with blood gushing out of his neck," the suit said.

Poor baby. Lets see, a parolee with a firearm, running from police after commiting robbery (check your stats) , firing at police and being a moron. Yep, thats gounds for mom (?) to sue. I'll bet the Officers wanted to make sure he had tossed the gun before approaching. Tough.

Getting sued even when the suspect shoots himself-priceless and of course absurd.

Unfortunately the way the Fed Courts in SF are she'll probably win.

Guess they should have put a tourniquet on this neck wound.

Couldn't agree more Bob. A felon in possession, robbery, shooting at the police, apparently attempting to pimp a 14 year old child, and in all his glory shoots himself while trying to shoot the police. Did I cover everything? I'm sorry, but in my law enforcement days I'm pretty sure I'd be too busy protecting the crime scene, searching for his weapon, you name it one of 100 other more important duties before I could get around to offering that poor misguided youth medical aid. Once in awhile carma does even out lifes miseries. Oh well, shrug, too bad so sad, way to go SFPD officers for a job well done!

The mother just needs to accept responsibility that she raised a dirtbag and not blame everyone else for her lack of child rearing skills and the actions of her son! Glad it was the POS that died and not an LEO.

This is just CRAZY, and they actually let her file a lawsuit. That is something else. What can you say. The world is a better place. I wish there were more felons this STUPID! Actually shooting themselves in the neck. WOW! And the scumbag mother has the nerve to file suit.

Another case of minority profiling by the Nazi cops! Unfortunately, SF is right in the heart of the 9th Circus...er...circuit and she has a chance of winning temporarily until the 9th is (AGAIN) reversed by the supremes.

Let me see....oh I get it...the police should have read him his rights before they chased him down...oh he shot at the police too... and mom gets to sue because he was such a bad shot he shot his own ass and died...let me guess...it was the lawyer who contacted her and told her to sue...yea thats it, it was the scumbag lawyer who caused this problem
