Police Officer Wins Donut-Eating Contest

April 16, 2004  |

A Wisconsin patrolman claimed victory over fellow law enforcement officers after eating 9 ½ donuts in the Dunkin’ Donuts World Cop Donut Eating Championship at the ILEETA Conference outside Chicago.

Terry O’Brien of the Town of Geneva Police Department in Lake Geneva, Wis., dedicated the win to his late father, who was also a police officer.

“He was a Chicago cop, a lifer. Today is his birthday,” says O’Brien.

At the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association conference, the donut-eating contest drew 40 participants from across the United States and Canada.

Ed Nowicki, master of ceremonies and a Police magazine Advisory Board member, was impressed with O’Brien’s feat. “I thought they’d do seven, maybe they’d do eight. I couldn’t believe almost 10!”

According to the ILEETA Website, O’Brien’s prizes for his win included a semi-automatic pistol, Second Chance soft body armor, and a specially designed trophy, among other items. All participants received a “World Cop Donut Eating Championship” t-shirt.

Contest entrance fees and proceeds from the sale of t-shirts were donated to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund and the ILEETA scholarship fund.
