Despite its traditional mission, I always thought our motor unit could assume a more tactical posture and play less of a support role, especially when responding to school shootings. Since motors are such a specialized unit, it is easier to pull them off of their primary missions and redirect them whenever necessary.

The main advantage of using a police bicycle is stealth. Everyone is looking out for sirens in the distance and preparing for police cruisers to roll up. However, unless the bad guys are covering all access points with lookouts, the police bicycle can sneak in through what would ordinarily be considered inaccessible vehicle entry points.

K-9 teams are considered force multipliers. One K-9 team can do the work of many officers, which frees up officers for other duties. A K-9 team is an effective tool if its use is understood by those that call on them to support their operations.
