Attendees to the POLICE-TREXPO 2011 conference in Chantilly, Va., from Aug. 10-12 had the chance to hear Lt. Col. Dave Grossman give the keynote, "The Bulletproof Mind: Psychological and Physiological Preparation for Combat." They were also able to take advantage of a pair of defensive-tactics traing sessions, including Al Giusto's techniques for disarming suspects armed with edged weapons. Range Night included an instructional session from Chris Cerino of "Top Shot" fame.

The tools needed for simulating diminished hearing during training are basic: ear plugs and range ear muffs. These are effective for creating scenarios involving temporary hearing loss due to gun shots or other explosive sounds.

Conference attendance was up significantly at this year’s TREXPO East, held Aug. 29 through Aug. 31 in Chantilly, Va. And with good reason. The conference program offered an excellent balance of hands-on defensive tactics training, anti-terrorism classes, and patrol and SWAT tactics courses.

The introduction comes in the form of a three-minute round of body sparring in a 6X6-foot ring against the trainers, all noted martial artists and police DT instructors in their own right.
