Officers shouted commands to the suspect to drop the ax. He refused and was shot once by one of the officers, police said.
“Now our troopers will be able to go out and train at schools, churches, and other businesses to let civilians know the best way to respond to an active shooter before law enforcement arrives on scene,” the highway patrol states in a social media post.
The district said in a news release that “recent developments have uncovered additional concerns” with the department’s operations. For the time being, the district has asked the Texas Department of Public Safety to provide additional troopers.
The video shows a female deputy leaning out of the boat to pull the flag from the water before shaking it out to dry.
"My fellow chiefs are committed to stay here as long as it takes to make sure that your officers are back in their place with their families,” said Coral Gables Police Chief Edward Hudak Jr.
After 45 minutes of swimming, walking, wading, and pushing through the water, Lauder made it to her house where he heard her screaming. When he got inside, he put his mom on a table and bundled her in dry sheets.
