A veteran SWAT officer with the Philadelphia (PA) Police Department was shot in the face and critically injured while serving a warrant for a weapons violation early Monday morning.
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross said that Officer Jaison Potts suffered "very serious" facial injuries, including a broken jaw, and may have artery damage, according to WCAU-TV.
When SWAT officers entered the subject's residence they immediately came under fire. Officers returned fire, reportedly hitting the gunman, who was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
Commissioner Ross said that despite the critical nature of his injuries, the 20-year veteran officer is expected to survive.
