A trooper with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol observed a vehicle speeding on Highway 64 and conducted a traffic stop—only to learn that the couple in the vehicle was dashing to the hospital to have a baby.

Sergeant Brian Maynard called an ambulance to the scene but everyone—Jimmy Baker and his wife Laura, as well as the trooper himself—quickly concluded that the baby's arrival was imminent.

"The labor came so quickly that (we knew) they weren't going to be able to make it," Maynard told WRAL-TV.

"It was scary, yet rewarding at the same time," Maynard said. "It was the first time I had to do that."
