Body Armor Saves KY Officer Shot During Home Entry

A Paris, KY, police officer's bullet-resistant vest saved him from serious injury during a confrontation with a suspect who was later killed during a gun battle.

Kentucky State Police from Dry Ridge assisted the Paris Police Department with an investigation about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Charles Stidham of Paris. When officers entered Stidham's home on Brent Street to speak with him, Stidham opened fire. One officer from the Paris Police Department was hit one time in the abdomen area of his bullet-resistant arrest. He did not suffer a life-threatening injury, according to KSP. His name has not been released.

A standoff ensued. Stidham was pronounced dead by the Bourbon County Coroner's Office after he was shot in a gunfight with officers, WAVE TV reports.
