Federal authorities identified the suspected gunman in today's shooting at Los Angeles International Airport as Paul Ciancia, 23, a Los Angeles resident, Fox News reports. A TSA agent was shot and killed with an assault rifle and six were wounded. The agent is the first from the TSA to be killed in the line of duty.

A bag the suspect left at a security checkpoint contained a note railing against the TSA in particular and the government in general. KTLA reports that the suspect's family worried he was suicidal and contacted the LAPD. Officers followed up with the man's roommates, but they said they had last seen him on Thursday and he seemed fine.

KTLA also reported that a recent policy change at LAX moved armed officers from permanent posts at security checkpoints to instead roam the airport, which might have been a factor in the gunman attacking there.
