An attorney for Karen and Kim Reynolds say authorities were already in hot pursuit of the fugitive ex-LAPD cop when Rick Heltebrake called a deputy to report he had been carjacked. The Reynolds' called authorities after Dorner held them hostage in their Big Bear cabin on Feb. 12, reports the Los Angeles Times.

An LAPD spokesman told the Associated Press the money would likely be handed out in April.
