Off-Duty Brooklyn Cop Patron Thwarts Salon Robbery

Officer Feris Jones, 50, was getting her hair done at Sabine's Hallway Beauty Salon in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood that's covered by the NYPD's 79th Precinct at 6:27 p.m. Saturday. At that time, 19-year-old parolee Winston Cox entered the business and demanded the wallets of patrons.

An off-duty New York officer halted a robbery in a Brooklyn salon on Saturday by firing rounds that knocked the gun out of the hand of the gunman and struck a latch that locked the front door, reports the New York Daily News.

Officer Feris Jones, 50, was getting her hair done at Sabine's Hallway Beauty Salon in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood that's covered by the NYPD's 79th Precinct at 6:27 p.m. Saturday. At that time, 19-year-old parolee Winston Cox entered the business and demanded the wallets of patrons.

Jones exchanged fire with Cox, who fled and was arrested at a nearby hotel on Monday. Officers recovered the revolver he used in the robbery. No other patrons were injured, according to the NYPD.
