Chicago SWAT Veteran Found Slain In SUV

Officer David Blake was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound at about 6:30 p.m. Monday in his vehicle parked in the Southwest side of the city. His service weapon was found inside the vehicle, indicating he was shot be someone inside the SUV with him.

The Chicago Police Department has lost its fifth officer this year, after a 15-year SWAT veteran was found dead in his personal SUV on Monday, Superintendent Jody Weis announced.

Officer David Blake was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound at about 6:30 p.m. Monday in his vehicle parked in the Southwest side of the city. His service weapon was found inside the vehicle, indicating he was shot be someone inside the SUV with him, reports the Sun-Times.

Also, a cigarette was still in Blake's mouth when he was found.

In the spring, three Chicago officers — Thomas Wortham, Thor Soderberg and Michael Bailey — were killed while off duty. The department lost Sgt. Alan Haymaker in February in an automobile accident.
