Chicago Police Officer Hester Scott has been taking care of Keshawn Perkins, who had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Perkins allegedly beat and stabbed his grandmother to death late Friday, wrapped her body in a blanket, and put her body in a catch basin in the backyard.

The officer had been stripped of her badge and gun after Perkins told authorities she had abused him. The 25-year veteran had been reassigned to a 911 call center, reports the Chicago Tribune.
