Seattle Police Officer Ian Birk, who was cleared by his agency and the King County prosecutor in the shooting of a partially deaf woodcarver, has resigned from the force, reports the Seattle Times.

On Wednesday, King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg said his office would not file criminal charges against Birk for the fatal shooting of John T. Williams on Aug. 30.

The agency is continuing an internal investigation of Birk, following the officer's resignation. Chief John Diaz said the agency's firearms review board had ruled the shooting unjustified.
