The death penalty will be sought against Earl Ellis Green, the 44-year-old parolee charged with slaying Riverside Police officer Ryan Bonaminio, Riverside County District Attorney Rod Pacheco has announced.

While running after a suspect in Fairmount Park, Bonaminio slipped and fell. The suspect then hit him on the head with a metal bar several times, shot him once or perhaps twice in the head with his service weapon and then casually drove away, according to court documents released Tuesday.

The severe beating and the gunshots both contributed to his death, according to one of the two declarations filed by Det. Ron Sanfilippo.
