Dallas Officer Rescues Driver from Burning Car on Tollway

Shumpert, 59, stopped his patrol car and ran to the burning car. After breaking the driver's side window, he was able to pull the motorist to safety.

Officer William Shumpert was traveling north on the tollway near Trinity Mills Road about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when he saw a Cadillac stalled in traffic, Dallas police Senior Corporal Kevin Janse said.

Before he could safely block the road, another vehicle crashed into the back of the Cadillac, which crashed into a retaining wall and burst into flames.

Shumpert, 59, stopped his patrol car and ran to the burning car. After breaking the driver's side window, he was able to pull the motorist to safety.
