Detroit Officer Stabbed and Hit with Friendly Fire, Suspect Killed

The suspect was reportedly stabbing himself with the knife when police arrived on scene.

A Detroit police officer was attacked by a knife-wielding man, then wounded by friendly fire from other officers who opened fire on the suspect, Detroit Police Chief James Craig said.

The suspect was reportedly stabbing himself with the knife when police arrived on scene.

He was suffering a mental crisis the chief said. He was fatally wounded in the incident, but its unclear if he died from police fire or from his self-inflict stab wounds, Fox2 reports.

The wounded officer - who had been stabbed in the leg several times - was wounded in the hand Tuesday afternoon, Craig said.
