Video: Ohio Deputy's Welfare Check Ends in Point Blank Gunfight

The video -- taken by a doorbell camera -- shows Deputy Sara Vaught on Feb. 15 knocking on the door of a residence before an individual opened the door, produced a handgun and shot. The bullet narrowly missed Vaught before she returned five rounds.

The Warren County (OH) Sheriff's Office Tuesday released dramatic video footage that officials said depicts a Mason man opening fire on a deputy from point-blank range.

The video -- taken by a doorbell camera -- shows Deputy Sara Vaught on Feb. 15 knocking on the door of a residence before an individual opened the door, produced a handgun and shot. The bullet narrowly missed Vaught before she returned five rounds, WCPO reports.

The suspect Lance Runion, 56, was critically wounded and has been charged with attempted murder and felonious assault in connection with the incident, Fox 19 reports.

The welfare check was in response to a call from a family member who was concerned that Runion was possibly suicidal, might have overdosed on pills, and was well armed, Local 12 reports.
