Chicago Detective Attacked While Canvassing for Murder Witnesses

One of the assailants was armed with a handgun, the other with a knife. The assailants pushed the detective from behind and began physically assaulting him while rummaging through his pockets, police said.

A Chicago detective was assaulted Monday evening at about 7 p.m. in the South Shore neighborhood while canvassing for witnesses to a murder. The detective suffered injuries to his head and neck.

One of the assailants was armed with a handgun, the other with a knife. The assailants pushed the detective from behind and began physically assaulting him while rummaging through his pockets, police said.

The detective’s partner came to his aid and the assailants fled, police told CBS Local.

One suspect was arrested.
