TX Sergeant Dies in Motorcycle Accident After Funeral Escort Duty

Sgt. Bruce Watson, a 20-year department veteran, was off duty but in uniform and riding his patrol motorcycle when he was involved in a crash with an SUV. He had just completed a funeral escort and was driving home.

A Harris County (TX) Sheriff's Office deputy died Saturday after he was involved in an off-duty motorcycle crash in Pearland.

Sgt. Bruce Watson, a 20-year department veteran, was off duty but in uniform and riding his patrol motorcycle when he was involved in a crash with an SUV. He had just completed a funeral escort and was driving home, KHOU reports.

"Our entire Sheriff's Office family is grieving the sudden loss of our longtime brother,” Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said. "Sgt. Watson served his community with honor and distinction, and we ask for everyone to lift his family in prayer during this difficult time.”

Sgt. Watson was 51. He is survived by his wife, a Houston Police Department Officer, and his three adult children, two daughters and a son.
