Ohio Officer Recovering at Home After Being Shot at Traffic Stop

An officer with the Willowick (OH) Police Department is recovering at his home after being shot during a traffic stop on Friday night—his ballistic vest quite likely saved his life.

An officer with the Willowick (OH) Police Department is recovering at his home after being shot during a traffic stop on Friday night—his ballistic vest quite likely saved his life.  

According to Cleveland.com, the officer—whose name has not been released—was struck in the chest area, which was protected by body armor.

Willowick Police Chief Brian Turner told reporters that officers had responded to calls of a motorist driving erratically. Responding officers stopped the driver, who exited his vehicle and opened fire.

The gunman was shot three times during the incident and is now listed in critical condition at a nearby hospital.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations is investigating the shooting. Charges against the gunman are pending.
