An officer with the Randolph (MA) Police Department who reportedly struck a pedestrian while on duty last month has been cleared of any wrongdoing following an investigation into the incident.

According to the Boston Globe, Officer Steven Elman was responding to a report of domestic violence when he reportedly stuck a pedestrian—identified as 29-year-old Christopher Divens in late August.

A subsequent investigation into the incident concluded that the accident was "unavoidable" and that had the officer not steered away, may have been fatal for Divens.

The investigation was conducted by the Quincy Police Department.
