Florida Officer Shot, Saved by Body Armor

A 19-year Sheriff's Office veteran, the officer was a member of the SWAT team, which was helping U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents serve a high-risk warrant at the home, Sheriff Mike Williams said.

A Jacksonville, FL, police officer was shot multiple times Tuesday while serving a warrant. He was saved by his body armor.

"He was shot in the vest. So, the vest saved his life today without a doubt," Sheriff Mike Williams told Jacksonville.com of the bullet-resistant vest the officer was wearing when shot shortly before 8 a.m.

A 19-year Sheriff's Office veteran, the officer was a member of the SWAT team, which was helping U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents serve a high-risk warrant at the home, Williams said.

"He received some minor injuries. Obviously, there's a significant amount of trauma that occurs even when you get shot in the vest," Williams said.
