An officer who was fired by the Manchester (NH) Police Department in 2018 after it was discovered that he had sent text messages that were later deemed by investigators to be offensive and racist will not be reinstated to his agency, despite an arbitrator's ruling that he should return to the force.
According to NBC News, Officer Aaron Brown was fired from the department in 2018 after a complaint against him that prompted an investigation that uncovered he had sent "text messages that included extremely disturbing racist remarks."
Brown and the Manchester Police Patrolman Association then filed a grievance over his termination, asking for back pay and reinstatement.
A labor arbitrator ruled that Brown should have been suspended for 30 days and not fired, and that he be returned to the job, but the agency has refused to accept that ruling.
The dispute remains unresolved.
