Three officers with the Prince George's (MD) Police Department were fired upon as they responded to a call of a home invasion on Sunday evening.

According to CBS News, the officers came under fire "within seconds" of their arrival at the scene.

Interim Police Chief Hector Velez called the incident an ambush attack.

All three officers were transported to nearby hospital where they underwent treatment for their wounds. One underwent surgery and the other two had received minor injuries as the bullets were stopped by their body armor.

All three officers are expected to make a full recovery.

"They’re gonna be fine," Velez said. "They are in good spirits, they are concerned about each other."

Two suspected gunmen are presently in custody and charges are pending.
