More than 200 law enforcement officers in Colorado have either resigned or retired after the passage of Senate Bill 217 in late June, which put into place sweeping reforms that include officers’ personal financial liability for their actions.

More than 200 law enforcement officers in Colorado have either resigned or retired after the passage of Senate Bill 217 in late June, which put into place sweeping reforms that include officers’ personal financial liability for their actions.

According to the Denver Post, there is not yet a clear correlation between the passage of the law and the sudden increase in departures from the police forces in the Rocky Mountain State, but a survey is in the works to determine if there’s a connection.

Agencies statewide reported 241 officers have left in two months since the bill was signed into law.
