Texas Officer Knocked Unconscious in Violent Struggle with Suspect

An officer with the El Paso Police Department who had responded to calls of an assault in progress was beaten unconscious by the suspect, according to agency officials.

According to Fox News, police say they arrived to the parking lot of an auto parts store and found a female and a male in a confrontation.

Officers reportedly noticed the woman's clothing was torn, her shoes were in the parking lot and two cell phones were broken.

As police officers were interviewing the man—identified as 44-year-old Cesar Alberto Cordero—he lunged at an officer, picking him up and slamming him to the ground, police say.

Police said the officer was knocked unconscious and suffered from a concussion, a fractured orbital bone, and a large hematoma to the back of the head.

Other officers at the scene were able to arrest Codero, who now faces charges of aggravated assault on a public servant, two counts of assault on a public servant, resisting arrest and assault/ family violence.
