Officer Darren Wilson—who fatally shot Michael Brown in Ferguson six years ago—was again the target of a probe and investigation that resulted in prosecutors declining to press charges against him.

According to Fox News, civil rights leaders hoped that Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell might reopen the investigation into the case.

After a five month investigation, Bell concluded that it could not be proven that Wilson committed murder or manslaughter in the incident.

Bell said in a news conference on Thursday, "Although this case represents one of the most significant moments in St. Louis's history, the question to this office is a simple one: Could we prove beyond a reasonable doubt that when Darren Wilson shot Michael Brown, he committed murder or manslaughter under Missouri law? After an independent and in-depth review of the evidence, we cannot prove that he did."
