A woman reportedly attempted to assault an officer with the Canandaigua (NY) Police Department on Saturday night after she locked herself in a car, set off a large box of fireworks, then swung a knife at a police officer who tried to rescue her.

According to ABC News, officers said they were called to break up a fight between two women and upon arrival they encountered one woman—later identified as 37-year-old Leslie Smith—who had locked herself in a car and refused to come out when asked by police.

The woman then set off a large box of fireworks in the front passenger seat of the car, and then began swinging an edged weapon as officers attempted to save her from the flames erupting from the fireworks.

An officer was eventually able to talk the woman down from her crisis state, enabling EMT responders to care for her, and firefighters were able to quell the fire in the car.
