North Carolina Officer Shot in Gunfight, Flown to Hospital

According to the Wadesboro Town Manager, Wadesboro Police responded to an initial call of gunshots on the north side of town. While on the way, officers saw a vehicle matching the description from the initial call and followed behind.

A Wadesboro, NC, police officer was shot and wounded Tuesday night while responding to a shots fired call.

A second officer was also hit but suffered no injury. WBTV reports the bullet damaged his equipment.

According to the Wadesboro Town Manager, Wadesboro Police responded to an initial call of gunshots on the north side of town. While on the way, officers saw a vehicle matching the description from the initial call and followed behind.

The vehicle came to a stop and the officers and the suspects exchanged gunfire, police say.

A wounded officer was taken from the scene via ambulance, then flown to a Charlotte hospital. Officials say this officer is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.

A suspect was also hit, he is reportedly in serious but stable condition.

Three suspects are reportedly at large.
