At least one officer with the Hendersonville (TN) Police Department was forced to open fire on a resistive and intoxicated domestic violence subject early Thursday morning, police say.

According to WTVF-TV, two officers responded to calls of a domestic disturbance between a husband and wife—it was reportedly the second time that police were called to the location in the same night—and upon arrival at the scene encountered the subject, who police say refused to comply with commands and became combative.

Officers responded to the potential threat with at least one of the officers opening fire on the assailant, who suffered injuries that are considered to be non-life-threatening, police say.

Charges against the man—whose name has not yet been released—are pending.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is conducting the investigation into the incident.
