Port Authority Officer in Critical Condition Following Traffic Crash in NJ

An officer with the Port Authority Police Department is in critical condition at Jersey City Medical Center after being struck by a motorist while responding to an accident early Tuesday.

An officer with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department is in critical condition at Jersey City Medical Center after being struck by a motorist while responding to an accident early Tuesday.

According to TapInto.net, members of the Jersey City Police Department initially responded to an incident in which a 32-year-old New York woman overturned her vehicle on a state freeway.

While the Jersey City Police Officers—assisted by the responding Port Authority Police Officer—were securing the initial crash scene and doing traffic control, another motorist crashed into the median divider, then struck a JCPD radio car, and then struck the Port Authority Officer causing serious injuries.

That civilian motorist and the officer who was struck were transported to a nearby hospital.

The civilian driver was treated and released.

The officer—whose name has not been released—remains in the hospital. His condition is listed as critical.
