Woman Charged After Claiming COVID-19 Infection and Spitting on Florida Officer

A woman has been charged with battery on a law enforcement officer after she claimed to be positive for COVID-19—the disease caused by the coronavirus—before spitting on an officer who had responded to a domestic disturbance call on Sunday afternoon.

According to ClickOrlando.com, the subject—identified only as a 47-year-old woman being placed under arrest at the time of the incident—claimed that she was a carrier of the disease before spitting in the face of an officer with the Palm Bay (FL) Police Department.

The woman was transported to a nearby hospital for an evaluation. She was then booked into the Brevard County Jail. 

The officer is now in a 14-day quarantine as a precaution.
