An officer with the Chadbourn (NC) Police Department is now listed in stable condition after being seriously injured in a vehicle crash while responding to a call for backup at a traffic stop on Wednesday morning, according to the police chief.

According to WECT-TV News, Chief Anthony Spivey says he called for backup and as one of his officers entered an intersection while en route with lights and sirens activated, an SUV pulled out in front of the patrol vehicle.

The SUV reportedly flipped and the patrol car crashed into a building.
