A man from North St. Louis County, MO, has been arrested after a two-day manhunt following the shooting of an off-duty uniformed police officer working a security job in Ferguson.

According to Riverfront Times, the alleged gunman—identified as 20-year-old Fhontez Mitchell—was wanted on suspicion of shoplifting when he was confronted by a 35-year-old police officer.

Mitchell reportedly opened fire, striking the officer three times, once in the arm and twice in the body, according to reports. The officer was treated a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuried. He was wearing body armor, which prevented much more serious injury.

Mitchell then allegedly fled the scene and remained at large for more than two days before he was located and arrested.

Mitchell is now in jail on $1M bond. He faces charges of first-degree assault, robbery, armed criminal action, resisting arrest and tampering with evidence.
