SWAT officers with the Chicago Police Department worked with firefighters and personnel from the marine unit to rescue an individual who had fallen into the freezing waters of Lake Michigan on Sunday.

The agency posted on Facebook dramatic surveillance video of the rescue with the caption, "On the morning after the coldest day of the year, a pair of CPD SWAT officers rescued an individual who had fallen into the freezing waters of Lake Michigan."

The individual was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, following a coordinated effort between the CPD Marine Unit and the Chicago Fire Department.

A person appearing to be jogging beside the lake took notice of the man and signaled passing drivers that there was an emergency.

Police, fire, and other first responders arrived at the scene and pulled the man from the lake. He was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
