Voters in a small Colorado city about 270 miles West of Denver have approved a 0.58% increase in sales tax in order to move forward with plans to build a new police department headquarters building.

According to KJCT-TV, the Montrose (CO) Police Department is currently housed in a building that had formerly been a public library, and with the growth of the city—and attendant matters related to policing—the department has outgrown the facility.

The agency is currently in search of an architectural firm to provide possible designs for a new facility.

Construction is expected to begin in the coming months after a design is approved. The goal is for the new facility to be completed in 2022.
