An officer with the Lemoore (CA) Police Department reportedly came under attack by a man with a knife at a domestic call on Saturday night and the officer's partner subsequently shot the alleged assailant.

According to the Fresno Bee, officers were called to a residence to investigate a disturbance that involved a man and woman screaming inside the home.

As police approached, the man—identified as 21-year-old Zhondon Michaels—rushed out of the house and began to attack one of the officers, officials say. The other officer fired five rounds, striking Michaels.

Michaels was transported to a nearby hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

No officers were hurt in the incident.
