Officers in Chile who for two weeks have been trying to calm an increasingly violent series of protests came under attack with Molotov Cocktails that set several officers ablaze Tuesday.

Officers in Chile who for two weeks have been trying to calm an increasingly violent series of protests came under attack with Molotov Cocktails that set several officers ablaze on Tuesday.

According to Fox News, two female officers suffered serious burns when one of the homemade incendiary bombs landed near them. 

Colleagues quickly moved to help them, patting the flames with their hands and dousing them with fire extinguishers.

The two officers—identified as 25-year-old María José Hernández Torres and 20-year-old Abigail Catalina Aburto Cardenas—were listed in serious condition.

The crowds in Santiago have been protesting increases in public transit fares.
