Investigators with the Toronto Police Department are looking into an incident in which a suspect—handcuffed and seated in the back of a patrol car—was able to draw a firearm.
According to CBC, the incident occurred on Sunday evening after the man was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.
In-car video shows the man struggling for nearly a minute to get the weapon from his waistband, drawing it, and allowing it to slip through his legs to the floor of the car.
Police contend that a pat-down search of the man had been conducted, but the gun was not detected until it could be heard hitting the floor of the vehicle.
"I think it's a very frightening, scary video," said Mike McCormack, president of the Toronto Police Association.
